Before the "defund the police" non-sense became a dogma in studio movies, Hollywood aka Twentieth Century Fox (now owned by Disney) made excellent films about cops.

Gene Hackman gives the performance of a lifetime as Popeye, a tough NYC cop who wants to stop a drug shipment coming from France. This film won the Academy Award for Best Picture and rightly so: intense chase sequences, gritty landscape and amoral characters. Masterpiece.
