PROS:
- Rihanna will perform and so will Lady Gaga.
- The favorite product to walk away with the big statuette has done surprisingly well at the box office.
- The animation and documentary categories are still two forms of narrative consumed by moviegoers.
CONS
- Yes, the movie most likely to win has done well at the box office, but there are two movies, both sequels, that have done A LOT better: Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick. Will it be business as usual as the academy keeps ignoring the audience’s preferences?
- The last time both ratings and box office matched was 25 years ago with Titanic.
- The majority of films nominated for other categories are still being ignored by the majority of the audiences.
At this point, it’s best to let the numbers speak by themselves.
