There's art house cinema, and there's mainstream cinema. Sometimes, film can be used to send a message, and in this case, Pasolini goes crazy. The plot is simple: 4 wealthy men decide to recruit a group of low income teenagers to serve them at their private castle. The setting: Italy in 1944.
Horror movies can be visually scary, but not this one. This film elevates horror to a visceral level where fear is felt through actions that are inherently human.
Passolini creates this seductive atmosphere that turns darker and darker until we get an ending that reminds us that love will save the day.
