There was a time and place when Hollywood had a section dedicated to an adult audience. Yes, back in the 70’s, consumers purchased tickets to watch X-rated or adult content cinema. Eventually, with the rise of home video acquisition, the genre was able to survive, but then, COVID happened and onlyfans, justforfans, etc took over and all of the sudden, anyone can become a performer and well, perform.

Sexual adult content became way too available for consumers. Consumers have access to strong content using their phones, their tables, their laptops, etc. What happens when the market gets overcrowded and too real?

Mr. Locke’s story is not just a disregard of moral values. His actions are also a reflection of how sexual content became boring and predictable. The sexual market is so oversaturated with porn that reality became stranger than fiction. In a world where the actress who plays Barbie can be found naked easily, what’s the point in paying money for stars taking their clothes off on the big screen, when a quick search on the internet can fix that itch?

Porn became so reachable that that’s why movies have no longer erotic content. Scenes that were considered controversial once, no longer exist in the movies made nowadays. So where does the audiences go when it comes to graphic, adult content?

The answer is horror and action. Why horror? Well, because horror plays with the audience’s mind and some filmmakers don’t mind telling dark stories. In horror movies, there can be blood, gore, explosions, stabs, but since it’s a horror movie, it looks real, but it is fake, after all, it’s just a movie.

Now, action sequences are the equivalent of the things consumers can’t do on their daily life. Or in much simpler terms, stunts. Great stunts and great storytelling can really charm adults in theaters, but the adult content, it’s gone from the big screen. Why? Because reality is stranger than fiction.
